Received a love letter after my MDN letter to editor was published (March 13, 2005). Gotta share it!
Good letter. I support your common sense. The media is a MAJOR PROBLEM.
Here are two recent examples of exremely biased and stupid reporting
Over the weekend I listened to local TV coverage of the March 10 U of M. study update meeting. One station had a skull and cross bones labeled DIOXIN as background while commenting on the meeting. Another commentator stated the purpose of the study was to determine the extent of the dioxin damage.
Too bad that many people give credibility to this c---.
What is a wetland? Why should you care? If you've been reading my blog about our local dioxin dilemma (
TRVoice), you would know... environmental extremist wackos are out to get us! You're right, if you have any property they want to control, they will find a way to decide it's a wetlands! It may be as simple as the fact that MDEQ wants you to get a permit prior to doing anything with it or as complicated as the 15-year feud between the federal Environmental Protection Agency and Midland, Michigan resident John Rapanos.
Wetlands law mired in a bog -
The Washington Times: Commentary - March 14, 2005... describes the broad interpretation used by EPA in their attack on Mr. Rapanos. It was written by somebody who really knows the problem and the situation,Russ Harding, former director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
If you haven't heard yet, Mr. Rapanos was given some relief by the Judge involved, who sentenced Rapanos to the probation and community service time he's already served and the $185,000 fine he's already paid. A Detroit News editorial,
End the Harassment of Midland's John Rapanos suggests it's time for EPA to leave the fellow alone!
